During the formal accusation filed by the Prosecutor's Office against the detained minor following the attack on Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, the alleged perpetrator decided to accept responsibility, which accelerated his trial, and on Wednesday, August 27, the first conviction for the assassination was announced.
The minor confessed to being the perpetrator of the attack against the presidential candidate. The Prosecutor's Office brought him before a judge, and after two months of proceedings, a sentence of seven years in a juvenile center was confirmed.

In response to the sentencing, Víctor Mosquera Marin, Uribe Turbay’s lawyer, spoke out on his X account and stated: “We respect the decision, but this sanction is never comparable to the life that was taken or the pain caused.”
The minor is the one who appears in the security videos recovered by investigators who arrived at the Modelia neighborhood and at the crime scene. In those images, you can see how a motorcycle arrives, then he gets into a vehicle, leaves the jacket he was wearing and walks in the direction of El Golfito park, where the senator was.
The investigators' report shows how this minor approached the presidential candidate from behind and, without saying a word, pulled out a 9mm weapon and shot Miguel Uribe Turbay repeatedly. The latter immediately fell to the ground. The minor then fled the scene.

Two blocks away, the young man was captured by the community, the police officers on the scene, and some officers from the National Protection Unit (UNP) who were part of the presidential candidate's security detail. He was nearly lynched and was shot in the leg, so he was immediately taken to a medical center.
"At the request of the Attorney General's Office, a judge of guarantees imposed a preventive detention measure on Cristian Camilo González Ardila, for his alleged participation in the attack against the senator and presidential candidate, Miguel Uribe Turbay, perpetrated on June 7 in the Modelia neighborhood in western Bogotá," said the Attorney General's Office in the judicialization.
At the clinic, before a juvenile court judge, the Prosecutor's Office filed charges of attempted murder. The minor refused to accept responsibility, apparently as a defense strategy that later materialized when he admitted to being the actual perpetrator of the assassination. Statements were then received from the other suspects, who admitted the minor's involvement in the crime.
“I started off toward El Golfito Park because it was about three blocks away. As I reached the corner of the park, the traffic light was red, and I heard the gunfire. I heard they were shooting really hard. I heard about six shots, more or less. When I saw everyone get scared and run away, they didn't let me into the street,” said Cristian González Ardila.

For security reasons, the minor was transferred to the Prosecutor's Office bunker, where he remains detained, interned due to his age. They warn that he will remain there at least while the other stages of the investigation are carried out and the perpetrators of the crime are identified.
