PETALING JAYA: Wee Ann Hee, father of Malaysian artist Namewee (real name Wee Meng Chee) and a veteran singing competition judge, has said authorities will handle all matters related to the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, who was found dead last month.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Wee Ann Hee said the case is now under judicial investigation and the family would not be making further comments.

He added that Namewee had not returned to Muar for two or three months, but both parents visited him in Kuala Lumpur at the end of last month.

Wee Ann Hee told Sin Chew Daily he was unaware of what had happened to his son and emphasised that the family was leaving everything to the police.

However, he confirmed that Namewee had contacted the family and assured them of his safety.

Asked if the situation was putting pressure on Namewee, Wee Ann Hee said it probably was not.

"We haven’t planned to go to KL to visit him, since it wouldn’t make a difference anyway. And sometimes he’s so busy, he keeps his phone off," he said.

He added that the family would continue to monitor the situation.
