In a statement that parodies Donald Trump's characteristic style on social media, Newsom's press office wrote on Tuesday:

- LAST WARNING, DONALD TRUMP - MAYBE THE MOST IMPORTANT WARNING IN HISTORY! STOP CHEATING, OR CALIFORNIA WILL REMAKE THE MAPS.

Newsom is threatening to start a national arms race to redraw electoral districts on the map if Republicans do not give up their plans in Texas, according to several American media outlets.

- AND GUESS WHO'S ANNOUNCING IT THIS WEEK? GAVIN NEWSOM (MANY SAY HE'S THE MOST LOVED AND HANDSOME GOVERNOR) AND A VERY POWERFUL TEAM. DON'T MAKE US DO THAT!!! THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION.

Last month, Trump told reporters that there were about four states - in addition to Texas - he wanted to redraw in Republican favor before the 2026 midterm elections.

Trump's plans to restructure electoral districts in red states have not only been criticized by Democrats. Several Republicans fear that blue states will respond in kind, and that this will surely lead to mutual destruction, writes MediaIte.

When Trump was asked if he was worried that California would do the same, he replied:

- We'll fight them. You know, they're so corrupt in California, you never know what's going to happen.

On Wednesday, Newsom's press office published a new post on X, in which they write that Trump missed the deadline.

- NOW CALIFORNIA WILL DRAW NEW, MORE BEAUTIFUL MAPS. THEY WILL BE HISTORIC, BECAUSE THEY WANT TO END TRUMP'S PRESIDENCY, they write.

Newsom has also sent a letter to Trump accusing the president of playing with fire.

"You risk destabilizing our democracy, but you know that California can neutralize any gains you hope to make," Newsom wrote.

The California governor also says that he prefers to leave the decision to independent commissions, and that he would be happy to withdraw if the other states do the same.
