US PresidentDonald Trump on Sunday said there had been "big progress on Russia," without giving details. In a brief post on his social media platform, Trump wrote:"BIG PROGRESS ON RUSSIA. STAY TUNED!"The remark comes a day after his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, where both leaders discussed the Ukraine conflict. Also read: Meanwhile, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff shared details of the Alaska summit and said that the US President and his Russian counterpart Putin agreed to"robust security guarantees" for Ukraine during their high-stakes summit in Alaska."We agreed to robust security guarantees that I would describe as game-changing," Steve Witkoff said on CNN.Also read: This comes amid reports that said Trump endorsed a plan for Ukraine to cede the Donbas region to Russia in exchange for a peace deal, a stance that clashes with Ukraine and its Western allies’ refusal to give up territory by force. The proposal marks a significant departure from the stance of Ukraine and its European allies, who oppose giving up territory. European leaders cautioned that bypassing a ceasefire could strengthen Moscow’s position in negotiations. In addition, to bolster Kyiv’s position, several EU leaders will accompany Zelenskyy in his meeting with Trump on Monday, among them European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Nato secretary general Mark Rutte.
