Bangladesh: Large fire at Dhaka airport – Flight cancellations and diversions

Saturday, October 18

A major fire that broke out in the cargo terminal at Dhaka International Airport in Bangladesh has caused delays, diversions and cancellations of domestic and international flights.

At least 36 firefighting units rushed to extinguish the fire, assisted by forces from the country's army, navy and air force.

Flights at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have been suspended, airport official Masudul Hasan told reporters, adding that all aircraft are safe.

At present, it remains unknown what caused the large fire.

It is the third major fire to break out in Bangladesh this week. A fire at a garment factory and an adjacent chemical warehouse on Tuesday killed at least 16 people and injured others. On Thursday, another fire destroyed a garment factory.
