Cambodians are using social media to express their gratitude to US President Donald Trump for what they see as a key role in the recent ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand. The conflict along the disputed border lasted five days, the Cambodian news agency AKP reported, quoted by BTA.
Hashtags like #ThankTrump, #PresidentForPeace, and #TrumpForPeacePrize flooded social media platforms.
Portraits of Trump, accompanied by images of the American flag, the Cambodian flag, and photos of Cambodian refugees, including children, are being circulated widely, along with messages calling for his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Many Cambodians hail Trump as a champion of world peace, with a growing online movement calling him the"President of Peace" for his contributions to de-escalating tensions in the region.
The movement claims that the US president has played a decisive mediating role through direct contact with the leaders of both countries, calling for restraint and encouraging a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
This led to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, reached at a special meeting in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on July 28, 2025. The meeting was chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister Anur Ibrahim, in his capacity as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and co-organized by the United States with the active participation of China, with the aim of promoting a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
