"We hope that the momentum to curb terror and war that has worked in the Middle East will help end Russia's war against Ukraine," Zelensky said before the meeting.
However, it has been clear for some time that the main topic of conversation will be the recently discussed Tomahawk cruise missiles. The fact that Zelensky would ask to transfer them to Ukraine was already said by Trump himself some time before the meeting.
However, the meeting between Zelensky and Trump is overshadowed by a rather awkward situation - the presidents are meeting after Trump has already announced a new summit in Hungary with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The latter, speaking by phone with Trump, warned him not to supply Tomahawk missiles, saying it could escalate the war and harm peace talks.
Trump, who has repeatedly said that the US has a lot of these missiles, nevertheless doubted the possibility of helping Ukraine, saying that Washington cannot exhaust its reserves.
