Israeli military launches assault on Gaza City

Israel's attack on Gaza City has begun."Our army has already taken control of the outer perimeter of Gaza City," an Israeli army spokesman said in a statement.

Israel is working on a way for Gazans to leave the city safely and receive medical care where necessary, the spokesperson said. He also confirmed that some 60,000 conscription notices are being sent out in Israel this week, with another 20,000 scheduled for later this month.

It was already clear that an Israeli attack on the city was imminent. The government had approved the plan, and Defense Minister Katz gave the green light for the call-up of tens of thousands of reservists.

Bombardments have already taken place in the city and Palestinian residents have fled en masse.
