Poland confirmed the start of the new military operation" Eastern Sentinel", an initiative announced this Friday by the Secretary General of NATO , Mark Rutte , and aimed at strengthening the defense of the eastern flank of the Alliance after the incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.
“NATO’s operation Eastern Sentinel, which will defend Europe’s security together with our allies, has begun ,” Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz was quoted as saying in a message from his ministry posted on the social network X.
The Defense Minister praised the performance of the allied forces between September 9 and 10 in confronting airspace violations by Russian drones as"impressive." He emphasized the "interoperability, operational capacity," and the "excellent combination of capabilities" demonstrated.
“I thank everyone who participated: the Kingdom of the Netherlands Air Force, our allies from Italy and the Federal Republic of Germany. I also thank those who have declared their support, led by the United States, the Nordic and Baltic countries, France and the United Kingdom. Thank you to everyone who is committed to our common cause,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

The minister noted that these days have been “ a test ”, not only of the effectiveness and operational capacity of the Polish Army, but also of the Atlantic Alliance, the European Union and of the resilience to the hybrid war that daily affects Poland and European security.
“If anyone thinks that war doesn't concern them, that cyberattacks or disinformation don't concern them, the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, September 9-10, 2025, showed that everything that neo-imperialist Russia does by attacking Ukraine also very directly affects Poland, the eastern flank of NATO, and the whole of Europe,” he stressed.
For its part, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces indicated in a statement on X that “NATO’s actions are not limited to responding to isolated incidents.”
" Eastern Sentinel is not just a new initiative, it is a clear signal: NATO's borders are inviolable and the security of our citizens remains a priority ," said the Operational Command, which thanked the allies for their solidarity and the decision to send forces, considering this response as a tangible demonstration of the defense of the borders.
The Polish Army General Staff confirmed the start of the operation by releasing a video showing a French A400 transport plane landing at the Mińsk Mazowiecki airbase, along with the message: “Operation Eastern Sentinel has begun.”
According to the Polish portal RMF FM, this plane transported weapons for the Rafale fighters, which are already in Polish territory.
Donald Trump demanded that NATO countries stop buying Russian oil.
In other news, US President Donald Trump sent a message to NATO countries, urging them to stop buying Russian oil. He also warned that Washington will impose new sanctions on Moscow when all members of the alliance adopt the same stance.
He also proposed imposing tariffs on China as a pressure measure to end the war in Ukraine.
“I am prepared to impose significant sanctions on Russia when all NATO countries have agreed and begun to do the same, and when all NATO countries stop buying oil from Russia,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
“NATO’s commitment to winning has been far less than 100%, and the purchase of Russian oil by some has been shocking. This greatly weakens their negotiating position and bargaining power with Russia. Regardless, I’m ready to ‘act’ when you are. You just have to say when,” the Republican leader stressed.
He proposed, for his part, that NATO, as a group, impose tariffs of “50 to 100 percent” on the Chinese regime—which would be completely lifted after the end of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine—as a measure to expedite a resolution.
The US president argued that Beijing maintains strong control, even dominance, over Moscow, and that applying pressure through these tariffs could break that influence.
