Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has harshly criticized Israel after it launched a military operation just as Iran was holding indirect talks with the United States about its nuclear program.
Last week, at the time of the Israeli attack on Iran, US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Israel.
He urged it not to take military action while talks between Washington and Tehran continued. Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that Israel's action was"unilateral."
Later, Trump administration officials expressed support for Israel's intervention, and rumors emerged of a possible US involvement alongside Israel in this campaign.
Donald Trump said that in the past, Iran was given"chance after chance to make a deal" to stop its uranium enrichment activities, but it did not take the opportunity.
In a video broadcast on Wednesday, Khamenei made it clear that"Israel's attack took place at a time when our officials were engaged in indirect negotiations with the United States, and there was no indication of any aggressive, military or harsh action from Iran."
He also stated that "Israel's American allies intervening is a sign of the weakness and incapacity of the Zionist regime," writes CNN.
The Iranian leader also spoke about his country's reaction: "The punishment that the Iranian nation and armed forces have applied, continue to apply, and have planned for the future is severe and has weakened the enemy," he said.
Finally, Khamenei addressed a message to the people:"With strength."
