Morocco's Role and International Security Cooperation

Transition of Interpol Leadership

The image will remain one of the defining moments of Interpol's 93rd General Assembly in Marrakech. Before delegations from 179 countries, Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, the organization's outgoing president, presented Abdellatif Hammouchi with the most prestigious award the global institution reserves for a select few. This gesture was far from insignificant and confirmed the unique position of the head of the DGSN-DGST (National Security and Territorial Surveillance Directorate) on the international security stage.

This high distinction recognizes Morocco's actions in the fight against terrorism and transnational crime, as well as Abdellatif Hammouchi's personal efforts in international police cooperation. For Interpol, this is an explicit recognition of the professionalism and reliability of Moroccan security services, often cited as an example for the effectiveness of their joint operations and their contributions to global investigations.

After the medal presentation, Abdellatif Hammouchi presented a symbolic gift to Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, in recognition of his tenure and his role in strengthening Interpol's operations. A similar gesture was extended to Valdecy Urquiza, the organization's Secretary General, as a sign of consideration and esteem.

The ceremony concluded with one of the essential protocol elements of the Interpol General Assembly: the handover of the Organization's flag, a symbol of the passing of the torch between host countries. Following this 93rd session held in Morocco, the flag was thus passed on to Hong Kong, which will host the 94th General Assembly in 2026.
