Putin proposed to Trump a land swap in Ukraine

Saturday, August 16

Russian President Vladimir Putin has told US President Donald Trump that he could accept a freeze on the front in the southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhia if he gains control of the Donetsk region.

Financial Times reported that the Russian leader made the proposal during a meeting with Trump in Alaska on Friday, citing four people with direct knowledge of the discussions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday in a post on the X platform that "all issues important for Ukraine must be discussed with the participation of Ukraine, and no issue, especially territorial ones, can be decided without Ukraine."

Volodymyr Zelensky also confirmed that he plans to meet with Donald Trump in Washington on Monday, following his summit with Putin.

"Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace," Zelensky said on Saturday on X.
