In the midst of a ceremony promoting police generals, President Gustavo Petro announced that he will file the corresponding complaints against those who have accused him of being responsible for the attack on presidential candidate and senator Miguel Uribe Turbay.

At that event, which took place on Tuesday, August 12, the head of state revealed that he will submit the complaints to the Supreme Court of Justice for review.

"I'm leaving this with an ellipsis because I know there's no final investigation, and that it was political hatred that killed Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay. Therefore, there's a crime against us underway," Petro said.

He also stated: "Those who claim that this president is responsible, neither the UNP, which was in charge of the senator, but rather complemented him, nor the National Police, are responsible. Those responsible point the finger elsewhere, and therefore, I have decided to defend myself."

"Because a president should not admit to the crime, a crime that is also seeking more hate crimes, I will present the complaints to the Court because that is what is done in a democracy," the president insisted.

The head of state also stated in his speech: "It's not revenge for revenge's sake. We've been killing each other for generations. All those, regardless of their political or social status, who are insinuating slander for which they have absolutely no proof just to win votes."

“It has disgusted me to the point of vomiting to see how a human being, in conditions of complete defenselessness, has been politically manipulated, just to win a few votes. Others, others, not him, who already knew he couldn't do it,” he emphasized. “You don't manipulate a human being. Human dignity is above all else. Whatever your thoughts, and they are said by someone who is not capable of hating in their heart,” Petro concluded his speech.

Meanwhile, the head of state said that preliminary reports suggest that the dissidents of the Second Marquetalia and the ELN guerrillas would apparently be responsible for the attack against the pre-candidate and senator of the Democratic Center, Miguel Uribe Turbay.
