Tyler Robinson, 22, the man arrested in the aftermath of the fatal shooting of political activist Charlie Kirk, comes from a MAGA (Make America Great Again) family, his grandmother revealed to Daily Mail.

Family members are Trump supporters

Debbie Robinson, 69, who is Tyler’s grandmother, said in her Sep. 12 media interview in the wake of her grandson's arrest that her family members are Trump supporters.

“My son, his dad, is a Republican for Trump,” she said.

“Most of my family members are Republican. I don’t know any single one who’s a Democrat.”

Father turned son in to authorities

It was also reported that Robinson’s father, Matt, 48, was the one to turn his son in to the authorities after Tyler confessed to the shooting.

Debbie said she has not been able to get in touch with her son after her grandson’s arrest.

A shy person

She added that she was"so confused" about her grandson's arrest as Tyler "is the shyest person".

“He has never, ever spoke politics to me at all,” she said, adding that Tyler has never been in trouble before"in his life".

Parents' political affiliations

Robinson’s parents are both registered Republicans, U.S. media reported, based on public records of their political affiliations.

Tyler's mother, Amber Robinson, 44, is a licensed social worker.

Matt, Tyler's father, runs a kitchen countertops, cabinets, and stone surfaces installation business in their home city of Washington, Utah.

Both parents have held hunting licences.

Amber previously shared images on social media in 2021 of one her Tyler's brothers holding a gun.

Tyler not a voter

Tyler has not voted in the past two U.S. general elections even as he is registered as an unaffiliated voter.

Utah governor Spencer Cox told media that Tyler had reportedly “become more political in recent years”.

But it was unclear what"more political" meant.

Photos found on Facebook showed Tyler in 2017 wearing a costume of a green-faced president Donald Trump piggybacking him.

However, this could be more of an internet culture-influenced meme, similar to the symbols and phrases found scratched into his bullet casings left at the crime scene.

Cox also revealed that Tyler had a conversation with another family member and mentioned that Kirk was going to Utah Valley University.

"They talked about why they didn’t like him and the viewpoints that he had,” Cox said.

Likely to be charged next week

Cox said the charges against Robinson will likely be filed next week.

TMZ reported charges will be filed on Tuesday, Sep. 16.

The state of Utah still has the death penalty option.

Trump seeking death penalty

In a Friday, Sep. 12 interview with Fox News, Trump said that he hopes Robinson is punished to the fullest extent of the law.

“I hope that he was going to be found guilty, I would imagine, and I hope he gets the death penalty,” the president said.

On Friday morning, Trump announced that a suspect had been taken into custody after Kirk, 31, was shot dead during a speaking event at UVU on Wednesday.

Kirk was a prominent MAGA activist.
