US President Donald Trump will participate in a roundtable discussion at the White House on Thursday with senior officials from his administration to assess the progress of his strategy against drug cartels and human trafficking networks, Fox News reported Wednesday.
According to the official White House agenda, the event is scheduled for the State Dining Room, with the note that"the president will make an announcement" during the meeting.
According to Fox News, the event will serve to discuss the successes of the National Security Task Forces, which Trump established on January 20, his first day in office, to address threats posed by criminal cartels in the United States.
The order signed by Trump instructs Attorney General Pam Bondi and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to establish such task forces in every state to dismantle cartels and human trafficking networks.
The Homeland Security Task Forces are a historic achievement that underscores what the federal government can accomplish with a leader like President Trump, who is willing to cut red tape, increase coordination, and prioritize the safety of the American people, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told the same outlet.
The event comes as the Trump administration expands its military operations against drug trafficking with at least two attacks on vessels in the Pacific near Colombia that were allegedly transporting drugs, following several attacks on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean near Venezuela. EFE
