Poland has one"weapon" that it can give to Ukraine - young Ukrainians of draft age.
This was stated by the country's former Prime Minister Leszek Miller. He noted that there are millions of such men outside Ukraine.
"It's strange that millions of young men have left Ukraine and don't want to fight for their country. Often these are people who didn't leave illegally, but simply didn't return. But in no case are they in Ukraine and are not at the front," he believes.
Return of Ukrainians of draft age
According to Bloomberg, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tried convince the allies to return the evading men , but was rejected.
It is noted that politicians"from Poland to Hungary" have stated that they will not send refugees back while the war rages.
But there is also a major economic reason to keep them, especially in countries whose governments have taken a negative stance on migration in recent years. In addition to Ukrainians who settled in Poland before the war, the country has taken in about 950,000 refugees. Their contribution to GDP was between 0.7% and 1.1% last year, according to a report by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
