Leaders of the Group of Seven countries and European leaders met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg to discuss the US peace plan for the war in Ukraine, writes Reuters.
"The initial draft of the 28-point plan includes important elements that will be essential for a just and lasting peace. We therefore consider that the draft constitutes a basis that will require further work," the leaders said.
"We are clear on the principle that borders should not be changed by force. We are also concerned about the proposed limitations on Ukraine's armed forces, which would make this country vulnerable to future attacks."
The leaders added that any elements relating to the European Union and NATO would require their agreement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukrainian authorities were under considerable pressure regarding the US peace plan that would force Ukraine to major concessions, CNN reports.
"The pressure on Ukraine is now at its peak. Ukraine could now face a very difficult choice: either the loss of dignity, or the risk of losing a key partner, or 28 difficult points, or an extremely difficult winter. The most difficult risks are life without freedom, without dignity, without justice, and believing someone who has already attacked us twice," Zelensky said on Friday.
