The President of the Board of Directors of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, insisted that there are no pacts of complicity with respect to the accusations against Adán Augusto López for alleged links to organized crime, and denounced the existence of an"inquisitorial campaign" by the media.
"There is no pact of complicity with anyone. Yesterday, the Morena leader was very clear that if a colleague engages in illegal conduct, they must be held accountable. She was also very clear that what we do not agree with is the campaign of immediate prosecution and sentencing against a colleague," she declared at a press conference.
The cherry leader reported that this morning he spoke with Adán Augusto López, and said that the Morena coordinator in the lower house,"is calm."
He also said that they only spoke about legislative issues and not about the accusations that link him to Hernán Bermúdez , who was the head of security for Tabasqueño when he was governor of Tabasco, and is now a fugitive from justice.
"I talked to him, we discussed several issues, the change in the Board of Directors, he was calm, he has his way, I had red chilaquiles for breakfast, and that's it, we didn't talk about it," he indicated.
He added that this weekend, Adán Augusto himself came forward and insisted that there is a political coup .
"They already asked him, he responded and insisted that the investigation is open, so I don't think there is any more depth to the matter beyond a blow, which also implies a double standard because there is no equal treatment, for example, with the case that is being compared, which is that of Felipe del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Calderón Hinojosa , whose security secretary is in prison and sentenced," he added.
Fernández Noroña asked not to"get ahead of ourselves" and to await the investigations.
"We mustn't rush things; we must wait for the investigations to begin, and once this investigation process is underway, we'll know what the charges are and whether the Prosecutor's Office determines who to summon or even who to prosecute," he requested.
The Senator said that the media blitz seeks to destabilize the movement to which he belongs, and he downplayed the criminal group"La Barredora."
"It's a shady campaign. Who's ever heard of 'La Barredora'? No one! And now it's going national and it's a major criminal group. It turns out it's more dangerous than 'El Chapo,'" he joked.
Finally, Fernández Noroña acknowledged that the allegations could affect Adán Augusto López's political career.
"Of course, that doesn't mean it doesn't affect you, nor does it mean it's made of rubber. Of course, these campaigns, yes, they are unpleasant and of course they wear you down," he concluded.
