The accident happened in the luxury resort town of Porto Cervo. The 24-year-old woman was on her way to work as a babysitter on July 10 when she was hit by a BMW X5 on a pedestrian crossing. Despite immediate help from passersby and emergency services, the woman died at the scene of the accident from severe head injuries.
According to investigators, Spora claimed she didn't notice the woman. The car stopped after just a few meters, and Spora got out. An eyewitness said she immediately realized what had happened, covered her face with her hands, and collapsed.
Alcohol and drug tests were negative. Italian authorities are now investigating whether Spohr was using a mobile phone while driving.
The prosecutor's office has opened a case of involuntary manslaughter. Spora's vehicle was confiscated, and video surveillance footage will be reviewed to understand what happened.
