Egypt has expressed deep concern over the increasing reports of famine in the Gaza Strip, most recently the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, which officially confirmed the existence of famine in the Gaza Strip following 22 months of a brutal Israeli war on the Strip and the crimes committed against innocent civilians there.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, Egypt stressed the need for the international community to put an end to the blatant crimes and violations being committed, the consequences of which include the tragic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. Egypt calls on the international community to intervene firmly against Israel's persistence in imposing restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid, which is already available and capable of ending the famine as quickly as possible.

Egypt also stressed the international community's responsibility for the outcome of the situation, which resulted from the adoption of double-standard policies that do not reflect the universality of human rights, which have been trumpeted and politicized over the past decades, while failing to defend their most basic values during the aggressive Israeli war on the Gaza Strip against a defenseless people who have become destitute of their daily bread without effective intervention from the international community to stop this war.

Egypt commended the statements of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in which he affirmed that the famine in the Gaza Strip is a man-made disaster and a failure of humanity. He emphasized Israel's obligations under international law to ensure medical and food supplies to the population, as the occupying power.
