According to the Polish government, a Russian military drone crashed into a cornfield in eastern Poland. Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said the incident was a provocation by Russia.
According to Polish police, an explosion occurred in the town of Osiny, located about 100 kilometers southeast of Warsaw, on Wednesday night. There were no casualties, but windows in nearby buildings were damaged.
Osiny is located in the Lublin administrative district, which borders Ukraine and Belarus to the east. The army announced that no violations of Polish airspace were detected overnight into Wednesday.
The Polish Ministry of Defense said the crashed object was a Russian version of the Shahed drone.
In November 2022, two people were killed when a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile crashed over the Polish village of Przewodow, near the Ukrainian border. The incident occurred while Russia was bombing several cities across Ukraine. Just over a year later, a Russian missile temporarily entered the airspace of NATO and EU member Poland.
