The Israeli military has been intensifying its attacks on Gaza for several weeks. In early August, the government approved a new campaign to capture the largest city in the Palestinian territory. The Israeli military claims to already control about half of its area.

Israeli military spokesman Avichai Adrai called on Palestinians in Gaza to go to Khan Yunus, where they will receive food, health care and shelter in"humanitarian zones".
In the past, the Israeli army has repeatedly attacked gathering places of forcibly displaced Palestinians.
Humanitarian organizations warn that not all Palestinians have the ability, strength and resources to flee the city, and warn that the southern Gaza Strip lacks the infrastructure necessary to accommodate such a large wave of refugees.
So far, Israel's invasion of the Gaza Strip has killed, according to the local health ministry, over 64,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
