"The operation lasted several months. SBU agents mined the supports of this illegal facility. And today, without any casualties among civilians, the first bomb was activated at 4:44 a.m.," the SBU statement said.
"The supporting pillars, which are located below the water level, are severely damaged - this was contributed to by 1,100 kilograms of explosives in the equivalent of TNT. In fact, the bridge is in a state of emergency," the SBU stated.
SBU Chairman Vasils Maļuks personally supervised the operation and coordinated its planning.
"God loves the Trinity, and the SBU always brings what is planned to the end and never repeats itself. Previously, we carried out a strike on the Crimean bridge twice in 2022 and 2023. Therefore, today we continued this tradition underwater," Maluks pointed out.
"There is no place for any illegal Russian facilities on the territory of our country. Therefore, the Crimean Bridge is an absolutely legitimate target, especially considering that the enemy used it as a logistical artery for supplying its troops. Crimea is Ukraine, and any manifestations of occupation will receive our firm response," the SBU head said.
The Telegram channel, which monitors the operational situation on the bridge, announced at 6 a.m. that traffic on the bridge had been temporarily suspended, the Meduza online publication reports. However, it was restored around 9 a.m.
According to the situation at 2 p.m., there is no queue in front of the checkpoint on the Crimean side, but there are 120 vehicles in line on the Russian side, the channel indicates.
The Telegram channel"Mash" reported on Tuesday that a Ukrainian drone was shot down over the bridge at around 6 a.m., and its debris fell onto the roadway.
The bridge was then closed for three hours while specialists inspected the road and removed the drone debris, Mash reports.
