Hulk Hogan dies : the wrestling legend was 71 years old, he would have turned 72 on August 11. The news was reported by Tmz, also adding that the cause of death   appears to have been cardiac arrest.

On Thursday morning, paramedics arrived at his Florida home and confirmed he died of cardiac arrest. Just a few weeks ago, his wife, Sky Daily, had forcefully denied rumors of his medical deterioration, specifying that the former champion's heart was strong and that he was simply recovering from neck surgery he underwent in May. Hulk transformed professional wrestling into a family-friendly entertainment sport; before him, wrestling was aimed at a rather small audience. His in-ring theatrics were magnetic for children and their parents.

He was also an American actor and television personality (his performance in Rocky III is unforgettable) and a reality TV star. Born on August 11, 1953 in Augusta, Georgia, he became famous over the years thanks to his leadership, his blond mustache and his red headband. In 2005 he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. His matches against rivals André The Giant (died January 28, 1993), Undertaker and King Kong Bundy (died March 4, 2019) are unforgettable.

In the 1980s, Hogan was about two meters tall. Over the years, he's lost eight centimeters. The reason? He had to undergo several back and spinal surgeries even after retiring, as severe physical pain required corrective surgery.

His private life, however, was not without controversy: a highly publicized divorce, legal scandals, and the release of a sex tape by Gawker media brought him to the center of public controversy. This culminated in his temporary expulsion from WWE in 2015 and a lawsuit in which billionaire Peter Thiel, another major Trump supporter, supported his cause and paid his legal costs.

Last November, images of the WWE legend ripping his shirt off on stage at the Republican National Convention before Trump's speech went viral. The US president paid tribute to him: Hogan was a great friend.
