The wife of Lufthansa CEO Vivian Spohr ran over a woman on a zebra crossing on the island of Sardinia, reports the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.

The 51-year-old German businesswoman was driving her BMW X5 in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, with her daughter with her when she hit the 24-year-old woman who was trying to cross a zebra crossing.

The paramedics who arrived at the scene fought for the victim's life for 20 minutes in vain, but he died at the scene due to his severe head injuries.

Spohr's car was seized by the authorities and an investigation was launched. Bild published a statement from her lawyer, who said that the Spohr family deeply sympathizes with the victim's family and that the exact circumstances of the accident will be revealed by the investigation. Vivian Spohr and her husband, Carsten Spohr, who has been the head of Lufthansa since 2014, have since returned to Germany.
