Trump said on Tuesday that he was "very disappointed" with Putin and suggested, in a post on the Truth Social network, that Xi Jinping, Putin and Kim Jong Un were conspiring against the United States, Reuters reports.
Asked about Trump's statements, Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov told Russian state television that the American leader could have been speaking ironically.
"I would like to say that no one plotted, no one planned anything, there are no conspiracies. There wasn't even such an idea. None of the three leaders had such thinking," Ushakov said.
"I can say that everyone understands the role that the United States, the current administration of President Trump, and President Trump personally play in today's international situation," Putin's adviser added.
In Beijing, Xi Jinping warned on Wednesday at a grand military parade that the world faces a choice between peace and war. He appeared flanked by Putin and Kim in an unprecedented show of force.
Asked if he was worried about a possible Russia-China "axis" directed against the United States, Trump replied:"I'm not worried at all... We have the most powerful military in the world, by far. They would never dare use it against us. Believe me."
