In the Yemeni capital Sanaa, the prime minister of the Houthi rebels was apparently killed. Israel confirmed that a"military target of the Houthi terror regime" had been hit.

The recent Israeli airstrikes on the Yemeni capital Sanaa have claimed the life of Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi, according to the Houthi militia. Several of his ministers were also killed in the attack on Thursday, the militia said on Saturday.

The Israeli attack took place during a routine government meeting to assess its activities and performance over the past year, according to the militia's statement. Al-Rahawi had been prime minister of the Houthi-led government since August 2024.

The Israeli military said on Thursday after the attacks that it had hit a “military target of the Houthi terror regime” in the Sanaa region.

According to observers, Al-Rahaui was considered merely a political symbol without any significant influence. The Houthis have formed a kind of parallel government in the areas they control, including the capital, Sanaa. This government has no international recognition. It merely represents the Houthi apparatus in the areas they control.

Since the beginning of the Gaza war, the Houthis have repeatedly attacked Israel with rockets and drones – claiming this as an expression of solidarity with Hamas. In return, Israel attacks targets in Yemen that it claims are linked to the Houthis' military activities.
