Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy demanded a “clear position” from US President Donald Trump on ending the war in Ukraine, in an interview with Sky News at the presidential residence in Kiev published on Tuesday. The Ukrainian leader called on the US president to take “decisive personal steps” and “scare” Vladimir Putin.

The president demanded a clear position on the sanctions package on Russia and security guarantees for Ukraine, in order to “stop Vladimir Putin and end the war.” He said that he believed that stopping the fighting would only be possible if specific security guarantees were first established. He said he hoped that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer would discuss in detail with the US President Donald Trump during his visit to the UK how to secure Ukraine’s future.

I really hope that he [Keir Starmer – Ed.] will be able to have a very concrete discussion about the US security guarantees for Ukraine. Before we end the war, I really want to see all the agreements in place. I want a document that the US and all the European partners support. That is very important. For that to happen, we need a clear position from President Trump

– said Volodymyr Zelensky, urging the US president to take “strong personal steps” to stop Vladimir Putin.

I think the United States is strong enough to make its own decisions. I think Donald Trump can give us enough air defense systems, and the United States has enough. I am sure the United States can apply enough sanctions to weaken the Russian economy, and Donald Trump has enough power to make Putin fear him. Europe has already imposed 18 sanctions packages against Russia. Now all that is missing is a strong sanctions package from the United States

– the Ukrainian president explained, noting that Vladimir Putin was “testing NATO” in Poland. “He wanted to see what NATO is capable of, what it can do diplomatically and politically, and how the local population reacts to it,” he said.

In addition, in my opinion, the other message is that you should not dare to give Ukraine any more air defense systems, because you may need them too

– said Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine.
