Moraes warns Bolsonaro about arrest for circumventing social media ban

Monday, July 21

André Richter, reporter for Agência Brasil - Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes warned, this Monday (21), in Brasília, Jair Bolsonaro about the non-compliance with the precautionary measures imposed against the former president.

The warning was issued after Bolsonaro published on his social media links to interviews he had given to the press in recent days.

Among the measures imposed last week against the former president is a ban on the use of social media.

According to the minister, failure to comply with the ban could result in Bolsonaro's pre-trial detention.

"The precautionary measure prohibiting the use of social media—directly or through third parties—imposed on Bolsonaro obviously includes the transmission, retransmission, or posting of audio, video, or interview transcripts on any third-party social media platforms. The person under investigation may not use these means to circumvent the measure, under penalty of immediate revocation and detention," Moraes stated.

Investigation

The precautionary measures were determined in the investigation in which the former president's son, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, is being investigated for his actions alongside the government of United States President Donald Trump, aiming to promote retaliatory measures against the Brazilian government and ministers of the Supreme Federal Court and to try to block the progress of the criminal action regarding the coup plot.

Prohibition on contact with Eduardo Bolsonaro and those investigated in the four groups involved in the coup plot.
