Mechouar Said Square in Laâyoune, in front of the Palais des Congrès, was illuminated under the stars, transforming into a vast stage for patriotic celebration. The evening, organized as part of the 50th anniversary of the Green March, attracted thousands of residents from all corners of the region to experience a moment of national unity.

The 2025 edition of this celebration holds particular symbolic significance: it comes just days after the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which clearly supports Morocco's autonomy proposal for the Southern Provinces. This context has reinforced the solemn and triumphant nature of the event.

A host of prominent figures took part in the ceremony, including the wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region and governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, the president of the municipal council, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, as well as several accredited consuls, local elected officials and representatives of the associative fabric.

Artists in symbiosis with the public

The stage vibrated to the rhythm of diverse performances by renowned Moroccan artists. Among them, singer Abdelhafid Douzi particularly ignited the audience. Before taking the stage, he expressed his joy at participating in this symbolic anniversary, emphasizing the collective pride inspired by the recent Security Council vote, which recognizes Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara."It's an indescribable emotion," he declared, mentioning the privilege of sharing this moment of national jubilation with the citizens of Laâyoune. His performance was met with prolonged applause, reflecting the general enthusiasm that characterized the entire evening.

Residents interviewed by Le360 also expressed their attachment to this pivotal date in modern Moroccan history. Many praised the Kingdom's diplomatic efforts, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, which have strengthened international support for the national cause.

A cultural mosaic and a magical setting

Beyond the political and symbolic aspects, the evening was distinguished by its artistic richness. The program highlighted the cultural diversity of Morocco: Hassani, Amazigh, Raï, pop and rap music resonated successively on the stage, reflecting the unity in the plurality of the national musical heritage.

The city itself was decked out in its finest attire for the occasion. The main thoroughfares were decorated with strings of lights and flags commemorating the Green March. The Mechouar Square, the vibrant heart of the festivities, hosted a majestic stage where renowned artists took turns performing to share in the joy of the people of Laâyoune.

This grand evening is part of a dense program of cultural, artistic, theatrical and intellectual activities, which has made Laâyoune the capital of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Green March.
