In an interview with CityTV, Bogotá's mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán, detailed various issues that are keeping the nation's capital on edge. One of the most important points is the execution of the new 13th Street project, which, according to the mayor, is expected to begin in December. Meanwhile, on Sunday, October 12, the controlled construction of the bridge at 50th Street and 13th Street will take place, forcing nearly 6,000 residents to be evacuated for safety reasons.

“Progress has already been made on the premises, as required on the networks so that, on the day after the bridges are demolished, measures can be taken to remove the debris, open the roundabout and start the work quickly by December at the latest ,” explained Mayor Galán, who also announced the preparations for the arrival of the second metro car to the city.

The second metro train is expected to arrive in Bogotá on October 20.

This second train is in the port of the city of Cartagena and, according to Galán, its arrival is estimated for the week of October 20. In addition, he revealed that the third train should arrive in Cartagena around October 28. The capital's leader also spoke about the efforts among local mayors to address the issue of garbage from the identification of critical points, pedagogy and sanctions.

“They have to collaborate on three fronts: the operational changes the system will undergo, frequencies, routes, and community work; educational work, working with communities and commercial areas to better regulate the time between when a person takes out the garbage and when the truck arrives; and the third is sanctions,” Galán said.

The mayor also spoke about the protests at the National University, assuring that the administration is preparing to address any disturbances that occur outside the campus. Galán comments that they are maintaining communication with the educational institution and affirms that they have taken action against acts of vandalism or the use of violence. In addition, to date, the District has ordered 123 interventions regarding these acts.
