In a message published on the X platform following an interview in Cairo with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Massad Boulos indicated that they had addressed the most urgent challenges in the region and reaffirmed our common commitment [with the Arab League] to peace and stability.
The US Special Adviser was particularly clear on the issue of the Sahara: I stressed that the Moroccan Autonomy Plan constitutes the only basis for a just and lasting solution to Western Sahara, while recalling the priority given by the Administration to maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza, he wrote.

The two officials also discussed recent developments in Sudan and other countries in the region. “We condemned the horrific crimes committed against civilians in El-Fasher and called for urgent action to protect the population and end the violence. We reaffirmed our support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, Libya’s unity, and Somalia’s fight against terrorism,” Boulos added.
These statements come a few days after the Security Council adopted the landmark Resolution 2797, which enshrined the Autonomy Plan for the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty. The US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, had then stressed the importance for all parties to engage in serious discussions, with Morocco's credible and realistic autonomy proposal as the only basis for a just and lasting solution to this protracted conflict.
