In a congratulatory message to King Mohammed VI, Israeli President Isaac Herzog stressed that the UN resolution constitutes a powerful diplomatic success and a significant step towards a lasting political solution, reports The Jerusalem Post.

This declaration is in line with Israel’s recognition, in July 2023, of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, the Israeli president recalls.

This message was sent on November 6, a highly symbolic date as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Green March. This historic moment, when hundreds of thousands of Moroccans peacefully affirmed their attachment to the Sahara, is now finding international resonance through this resolution. Israeli diplomacy highlighted this chronology as a powerful sign of historical justice and a convergence of visions.

In this message, Isaac Herzog also highlights the quality of relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv, describing Morocco as a beacon of tolerance and coexistence. The president further emphasizes the depth of the cultural, human, and historical ties between the two peoples, affirming that this friendship strengthens stability in a region striving for harmony.

Two days before this presidential message, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also sent his congratulations to King Mohammed VI."I wish to congratulate His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the adoption by the UN Security Council of the resolution supporting Morocco's autonomy plan for the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty," he declared, adding that this adoption represented"the triumph of determined and long-term Moroccan diplomacy."

These two messages are consistent with the ongoing rapprochement between Rabat and Tel Aviv since the resumption of diplomatic relations in December 2020, within the framework of the tripartite agreement concluded with Washington. Since then, exchanges between the two countries have intensified, encompassing the economy, security, and culture.

This stance from Tel Aviv also confirms the growing support of the international community for the Moroccan autonomy plan, which is considered by several powers as the realistic and lasting solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.

On October 31, 2025, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2797 on the Sahara by a vote of 11 in favor, 0 against, and 3 abstentions (Russia, China, and Pakistan). The text enshrines the Moroccan autonomy plan as the basis for future negotiations aimed at a definitive solution to the conflict and marks a historic diplomatic turning point in favor of Morocco, reinforcing the strategy pursued under the leadership of King Mohammed VI to resolve the issue.
