A new blow has been dealt in recent hours to Iván Morisco, one of the most feared leaders of the FARC dissidents in Colombia, after the death of one of the leaders in the middle of fighting with the security forces in Guaviare.
The security forces operation took place in the Nueva York area, in the municipality of El Retorno, in the department of Guaviare, where Willinton Vanegas Leyva, alias Dumar or Chito, was killed.
This individual had a criminal record spanning more than 15 years and served as the main leader of the Martín Villa structure and fourth leader of the Jacobo Arenas criminal bloc, part of the Mordisco dissidents.
Vanegas Leyva was responsible for armed actions that left four uniformed officers dead in Argelia, Cauca, in 2024. He was also tasked with consolidating strategic drug trafficking corridors in Meta and Guaviare to strengthen dissident groups and expand his criminal apparatus.
According to military intelligence sources, this man had direct orders from Iván Mordisco to consolidate the strategic corridors of Meta and Guaviare, with members from Cauca and Nariño.

Defense Minister, Retired General Pedro Sánchez, explained that the neutralization of alias Dumar or Chito represents greater peace of mind for the communities in the region and for Colombia.
"With this action, the terrorist structure of alias Mordisco is dealt a decisive blow, weakening its capacity for expansion, command and control," the Minister of Defense stated through his account on X.
Therefore, he congratulated the members of the Military and Police Forces, as well as the members of the Prosecutor's Office who accompanied the operation, for the outcome."Let's continue moving forward with everything, fulfilling the mission that Colombia has entrusted to you, because there are more of us good people and we will always defeat crime."
This operational result, coupled with the capture of his brother, alias Mono or Luis, and the killing of aliases Libardo and Cholinga in Cauca, confirms that progress is being made in dismantling the criminal group, Sánchez explained.

The senior official confirmed that the Army operation, in conjunction with the National Police, is ongoing and has been described as a"significant blow" to the criminal group's attempts to expand into Meta.
