US President Donald Trump does not plan to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the near future.

As Ukrinform reports, this was reported by Bloomberg with reference to a White House official.

The conversation between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday was productive, and a meeting between the two officials is also not necessary, the official said.

Last week, after a phone call with Putin, the White House chief said he would meet with the Russian leader within about two weeks, and Rubio and Lavrov would meet fairly soon.

At the same time, Trump acknowledged that the prospect of a summit between the US and Russian leaders in Budapest could be part of Putin's attempts to buy time, especially after the August summit failed to bring any progress in ending the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

At the same time, Trump dismissed fears that Putin could manipulate him and insisted that the Kremlin wants to end the conflict, which has been going on for four years.

It is noted that in recent days Trump has intensified his calls for an end to the war, urging both sides to stop fighting on the front lines.

As Ukrinform reported, The Institute for the Study of War states in its report that the Kremlin shows no signs that the Russian leadership is willing to accept anything less than Ukraine's surrender.

Earlier it was reported that this week's scheduled meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has been postponed. Informed sources said that Rubio and Lavrov have different expectations regarding a possible end to the war in Ukraine. After a phone conversation between Rubio and Lavrov on Monday, officials concluded that Russia's position has not changed and remains maximalist.

The heads of the foreign ministries of the United States and Russia were to hold talks on the eve of the meeting in Budapest between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
