"D. Trump said that while it is up to Ukraine to decide on its territory, V. Putin's position remains unchanged - he still wants Kyiv to relinquish control of all of Donbas," the source said.

According to the source, Moscow is ready to give up claims to those parts of Zaporizhia and Kherson regions that it does not currently control, effectively freezing the front line there.

Sources said Trump assured the leaders that he was ready to ensure Ukraine's security as long as it was not related to NATO, and hinted that Putin might agree to such an option.

However, some European officials, according to the publication, are concerned that Trump will pressure Zelensky to accept territorial concessions in order to reach an agreement.

The United States is offering Ukraine similar security guarantees to those offered by NATO members, a diplomatic source told AFP on Saturday.

The proposal was discussed during Trump's phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders on Saturday.

"One of the guarantees for Ukraine's security that the American side has offered is a guarantee similar to Article 5 in the absence of NATO," said an anonymous source in the diplomatic service. According to him, this issue was probably also discussed with Putin.

According to NATO's Article 5, in the event of an attack on one member, the entire Alliance would defend it.

The source claims that such security guarantees were offered to Ukraine by the United States, and the offer was repeated when other European leaders joined the conversation between Trump and Zelensky.

Another source familiar with the matter confirmed such security guarantees. However, the latter stressed that"no one knows how this would work and why Putin would agree to it if he is categorically against NATO and clearly against effective guarantees of Ukrainian sovereignty."

On Saturday, after talks with Putin, Trump first spoke with Zelensky, and then with him and European leaders together.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Trump's commitment to ending the war in Ukraine, but also said that the path to peace in Ukraine cannot be decided without the participation of the country's President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"President Trump's efforts have brought us closer than ever to ending Russia's illegal war in Ukraine. His efforts to end the killings are commendable. While progress has been made, the next step is further negotiations with President Zelensky. The path to peace in Ukraine cannot be resolved without him," Starmer said.

The UK Ministry of Defence has announced that British troops are ready to monitor a peace deal once it is reached. Peacekeepers from the"coalition of the willing" would rely on US air power to deter future Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The UK Prime Minister also welcomed the fact that the United States, together with Europe, is ready to provide Ukraine with strong security guarantees and deter Russia.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday that support for Ukraine and pressure on Russia must continue until a solid and lasting peace is achieved.

On the social network"X", E. Macron called for providing Ukraine with"unbreakable security guarantees" and warned that it is well known that Russia tends to renege on its own commitments.

Macron also announced that a video conference of the"coalition of the willing" would take place on Sunday to discuss steps towards peace in Ukraine.

The meeting, coordinated by the French President, UK Prime Minister K. Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, will take place on the eve of V. Zelensky's visit to the United States.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also stressed on the social network"X" that the EU is working closely with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the US to achieve a just and lasting peace.

"The most important thing is strong security guarantees that would protect the vital security interests of Ukraine and Europe," she said, thanking the US president for informing her about the progress of the negotiations with Putin in Alaska.

At the time, Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, did not believe that Russia would end the war anytime soon.

"The main reason for the war is Russia's imperialist foreign policy, not an imagined 'mismatch' in the European security architecture," Kallas said in a message on the social network X.
