The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported Wednesday in a statement published on X that they carried out a series of airstrikes against Hamas terrorist targets in various locations in the Gaza Strip. The offensive came after members of the Islamist group opened fire on IDF troops in the Khan Younis area earlier that morning.

According to the military, no soldiers were injured in the clash. The incident occurred on the eastern side of the Yellow Line, an area under IDF control and subject to the existing ceasefire agreement between the parties.

In the statement, the military indicated that the attack carried out by Hamas"constitutes a violation of the ceasefire agreement," the justification under which the airstrikes were allegedly conducted.

Last Saturday, the Israeli army bombed various points in the north and also the south of the Gaza Strip, despite the ceasefire still being in force, reported the Palestinian news agency, Wafah.

Israeli artillery struck the outskirts of the Shujaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City, according to Wafa, which cites local sources.

In the south, Israeli navy ships opened fire towards the coast of Rafah.

Since the arrival of the truce - which came into effect on October 10 - the Israeli army has carried out several military operations in Gaza, due to abuses by members of the Islamist group.

The UN Security Council on Monday approved a draft resolution prepared by the United States on Gaza, based on Donald Trump's 20-point plan, which includes the establishment of an international security force in the Palestinian enclave.

The resolution, approved with 13 votes in favor and abstentions from China and Russia, stipulates an International Security Force (ISF) until December 2027 that will be tasked with securing Gaza's borders with Israel and Egypt, protecting civilians and humanitarian corridors, and training a new Palestinian police force.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Israeli ambassador but in which no Palestinian representation was present, the US ambassador to the organization, Mike Waltz, first urged support for the resolution and then congratulated the members for “joining” and approving the document.
