The Government of Javier Milei slipped into the conflict between Israel and Iran this Sunday by expressing its"condemnation of the vile attack perpetrated" by the Iranian regime against Tel Aviv with the launching of "missiles and drones directed towards the civilian population" and repudiated that a military man accused of being a terrorist and possible mastermind of the AMIA attack has been named head of the Revolutionary Guard of the Islamic country.

In a statement issued this afternoon, the Office of the President harshly questioned the appointment of Ahmad Vahidi as commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, recalling that this Iranian military man is"one of the main suspects in the AMIA attack that caused the death of 82 people," in 1994 in the city of Buenos Aires.

"Vahidi's appointment constitutes an unacceptable provocation by the Islamic Republic of Iran toward our country and toward all free people who defend life and condemn terrorism," the Argentine President's Office added.

The social media post also noted that Vahidi is"a military man with a history of terrorist operations."

And he emphasized that he has been subject to "an international arrest warrant and an Interpol red alert since 2007 for his alleged responsibility as the mastermind behind the attack on the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association."

In that scenario, the official text recalled that"according to the investigation being carried out by prosecutor Alberto Nisman, Vahadi headed the decision-making panel that evaluated the proposal to attack Argentine soil in 1994 with the aim of sending a political message to the world."

Meanwhile, he stressed that"the AMIA Prosecutor's Office requested the implementation of the trial in absentia so that the Argentine justice system can advance the investigation and prosecution of Vahidi and others responsible for the deadliest terrorist attack in the country's history."

"The memory of our 85 murdered people demands that those responsible be held accountable, without international privileges or protection," added the statement prepared by the Casa Rosada.

Following the publication of the official communication, the Undersecretary of the Nation's Press, Javier Lanari, criticized those who"want Argentina to be neutral with those who twice attacked our country," alluding to the attacks against the Israeli embassy in the Retiro neighborhood in 1992 and the AMIA attack two years later. This message was later republished by President Milei, who did not comment on the matter.

Similarly, the official maintained that while"Kirchnerism made pacts with Iran, betraying the country so that its criminals would never be held accountable," Milei "condemns that tyranny in memory of the compatriots killed in the attacks."

Given the current situation in Israel, the Embassy and Consulate are doing everything in our power to help Argentine citizens.

The Argentine ambassador to Israel, Axel Wahnish, shared on his social media a series of recommendations for Argentine citizens who are in that country due to flight cancellations and complications in leaving Tel Aviv.

“Given the situation in Israel, the Embassy and Consulate are doing everything in our power to help Argentine citizens ,” he wrote in X.

Among other security measures, including the activation of alarms and the anti-aircraft shield, the Israeli government ordered the suspension of classes and the limitation of gatherings in border areas.
