Maia company denies responsibility for the maintenance of the Elevador da Glória
This Wednesday, September 3, the president of Carris, Pedro de Brito Bogas, stated that the maintenance of the Elevador da Glória has been carried out by an external company for 14 years, and an investigation is underway to determine whether this was a maintenance problem, but the Maia company initially flagged has just denied having any connection to the tram that derailed in Lisbon, causing 17 deaths.
"Following the news that has been made public about the tragic accident at the Elevador da Glória, in Lisbon, in which Main Energy is mentioned as responsible for the maintenance of that equipment, we must clarify that our company does not carry out the maintenance of this type of equipment nor does it have any connection or responsibility in this matter", the northern company affirms, in a statement.
“In fact, we do not have, nor have we ever had, any relationship with Carris, of any nature or scope, so the content of the news that identifies our company in this regard is false,” concludes Main Energy.
The issue at hand is the reference to Main Energy regarding a situation in which the responsibility lies with Main Maintenance.
"The maintenance protocol was scrupulously respected," said Brito Bogas, stressing that the last general maintenance of the Elevador da Glória was carried out in 2022, taking place every four years, but that the plan also provides for weekly and monthly maintenance and daily inspections, which were carried out.
The same person in charge added that interim maintenance is still carried out every two years, in this case in 2024.
