Celebrity Presence at Wimbledon

Bulgaria once again has a tennis champion in the Grand Slam tournaments for juniors and girls after 2008. This is Ivan Ivanov, who triumphed at Wimbledon.

The sixth seed defeated American Ronit Karki, who came from the qualifiers, 6:2, 6:3 on the second largest stadium at the All England Club - Court 1.

Ivanov became the second junior to win a Big Four title after Grigor Dimitrov, who won in London and New York 17 years ago. He is also the fifth Bulgarian to win a junior Slam title after Manuela Maleeva (Roland Garros 1982), Magdalena Maleeva, who won the Australian Open, Paris and US Open in 1990, and Cecil Karatancheva, who won at Roland Garros in 2004.

Ivan chose to serve at the toss and won the opening game. Immediately after, the 16-year-old from Varna broke after pressing his opponent and sending his backhand out. Then Ivanov put his forehand, which Toni Nadal said could become one of the greatest in tennis, into use and quickly consolidated for 3:0.

The Bulgarian's complete dominance on the court continued and he reached two new break points in the fourth game, but Karki escaped and took the first game. At 2:5, the American, who is 17 years old, served with new balls to stay in the set. However, our tennis player led 40:15 and realized the first set point, after a backhand into the opponent's net, after which he greeted himself with a loud"Vamos!". The set lasted only 27 minutes.

The picture did not change in the second set. Ivanov broke for 3:1 after a powerful forehand on the diagonal. Again at 2:5 Karki served, this time to stay in the match, and he did it. Then Ivanov served for the title. After a backhand in the opponent's out, he received two championship points and realized the second with a backhand on the forehand. Then he lay on his back on the court under the applause of the audience.
