Trump posted a picture on social media from this week's Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which was attended by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"It seems we have lost India and Russia to the deepest and darkest China. We wish them a long and prosperous future together!" Trump wrote alongside the image.

On Thursday, Trump called on European leaders to stop buying Russian oil and put pressure on China, according to broadcaster ERR.

Trump stressed that Europe must stop buying Russian oil because it finances the war — Russia earned 1.1 billion euros from fuel sales to the EU in one year. Trump also called on European leaders to put economic pressure on China, which supports Russia's war effort.

This week, China hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, where Jinping unveiled initiatives aimed at undermining the Western-led world order.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is made up of China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus.

It was also reported that a grand military parade was held in Beijing this week, in which the Communist Party showed off China's latest military equipment. North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and Putin were also present to view China's new weapons.

The Financial Times reports that Moscow and Beijing have reached an agreement to build a gas pipeline from Siberia to China, a sign of deepening economic ties between Russia and China.

In early August, Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian purchases of Russian oil. The new tariffs bring the total US tariffs on India to 50%.

Previously, Trump had stated that India, by buying Russian oil, was indirectly supporting Russia's war against Ukraine.

India became a major buyer of Russian oil after US and European sanctions were imposed on Russia's main export.

Russia accounted for nearly 36% of India's total crude oil imports in 2024. Buying Russian oil has saved India billions of dollars while maintaining relatively stable domestic fuel prices.
