US President Donald Trump plans to meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on November 8. This was reported by Bloomberg , citing an anonymous source familiar with the matter.

The location of the meeting has not yet been determined, according to the agency's anonymous source.

Orban announced earlier this week that he would meet with Trump in Washington to discuss protecting Hungary from the impact of US sanctions on Russian oil.

Hungary depends on Russia for oil and gas imports. Unlike many of its European Union neighbors, which worked to reduce their dependence on Russian energy sources after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Hungary has since increased its purchases.

The Hungarian government is trying to convince the US administration that its landlocked status leaves it no choice but to rely on Russian oil, despite the existence of an alternative pipeline connecting Hungary to the Adriatic Sea via Croatia.

As is known, the US president expects Europe to completely abandon Russian oil and gas. He recently imposed sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil.

Orbán then said that his government was working to circumvent the sanctions.

US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said earlier that Washington expects Hungary to abandon Russian oil and gas.
