In the last hours of this Monday, August 11, a high-ranking member of the North American government, who heads the leadership of the United States Department of State, confirmed that he will travel to Bogotá to accompany the family of Miguel Uribe Turbay after his death this morning.
This is Christopher Landau, Undersecretary of State of the United States, who assured in an interview with Donald Trump Jr, that he will visit Bogotá to attend the funeral of the Colombian senator.
At one point in the interview, the son of the current president of the United States asked him about the death of the presidential candidate in recent hours, to which Landau responded that the North American country had its eyes set on the hemisphere and Latin America and that is precisely the work that Secretary Marco Rubio has also proposed.
“It is very disturbing that conservative right-wing candidates in many countries, including our own country, have been the target of assassination attempts, so this is terrible, the senator was speaking against the president of Colombia, who was a member of the communist guerrilla and he was attacked a couple of months ago and then died,” he said.
"We are very interested in things that happen in countries like Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and this impacts us directly, obviously because of immigration issues but also because of many other issues," he said.
