The White House announced the latest news in US President Donald Trump's tariff war, stating that the US will impose a 20% tariff on Taiwan. In response, President Lai Ching-te posted on Facebook this morning, stating that these are merely"temporary tariffs" on Taiwan, primarily due to procedural arrangements in the negotiations. The two sides have yet to conclude their negotiations, so the US has initially announced a 20%"temporary tariff rate" on Taiwan, with the possibility of further reductions if an agreement is reached.
It is understood that the Presidential Office has scheduled a press conference at 11:30 a.m., where Lai Ching-te will personally explain the situation to the public.

The following is the full text of Lai Ching-te's Facebook post:
Earlier, the US informed Taiwan's negotiating team in Washington that Taiwan's"temporary tariff" would be 20%. This was primarily due to procedural arrangements, and the two sides had not yet completed their final meeting. Therefore, the US announced a 20%"temporary tariff rate" for Taiwan, with the possibility of further reductions if an agreement is reached. Taiwan and the US will also discuss supply chain cooperation and Section 232-related issues.
I want to thank the negotiating team for their hard work. Working within a tight timeframe, after four rounds of in-person consultations and multiple videoconferences, we have now completed technical negotiations. We have remained committed to the four priorities of safeguarding national interests, protecting industrial interests, protecting public health, and ensuring food security. Although the tariffs announced today by the US are only temporary measures, the administration will continue to work tirelessly to secure reasonable tariffs and complete the final stages of tariff negotiations.
