The Israeli Prime Minister's Office said, today, Wednesday, that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is suffering from bronchitis, and that doctors have advised him to get some rest.
Netanyahu complained of a cough and a cold during his court session at the Tel Aviv District Court, where he is being questioned as part of his ongoing corruption trial. Netanyahu requested an early end to the session due to his health condition, a request the judges granted. He told the court that his cold"is not getting better" and that his doctor had advised him not to continue working long hours. This comes after US President Donald Trump proposed pardoning Netanyahu on Monday, who denies all charges against him, asserting that he is the victim of a political conspiracy.
His latest court appearance also coincides with the return of hostages held by Hamas under a ceasefire agreement brokered by Trump.
In one case, Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, are accused of receiving lavish gifts worth more than $260,000, including champagne, cigars, and jewelry from wealthy individuals in exchange for political favors.
In two other cases, Netanyahu is accused of attempting to negotiate favorable media coverage from two Israeli media outlets.
During his current term, which began in late 2022, Netanyahu has introduced sweeping judicial reforms that his opponents say are aimed at weakening the judiciary.
