United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday, 7, that formally postpones the deadline for the implementation of the so-called “reciprocal” tariffs from Wednesday, 9, to August 1.

“I have determined, based on additional information and recommendations from multiple senior officials, including information regarding the status of discussions with trading partners, that it is necessary and appropriate to extend the suspension made effective by Executive Order 14266 through 12:01 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on August 1, 2025,” the White House statement said.

With regard to China, the tariff suspension - carried out separately from other trading partners - remains in force and is not changed by this Monday's order.

The statement also notes that the president's team is directed and authorized to take “all necessary steps to implement and effectuate this order,” including through temporary suspension or amendment of regulations or notices in the Federal Register.

Trump also announced on Monday the application of import tariffs against 14 countries for August, in a new round of unilateral measures.
