The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, on Tuesday backed the Attorney General of the State, Álvaro García Ortiz, following the confirmation of his indictment."We believe in his innocence and he has the backing of the Government of Spain," said Sánchez, who met this afternoon with the King at the Marivent Palace in Palma de Mallorca. The president of the PP and leader of the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has called for his resignation:"Whoever sits in the dock cannot prosecute crimes," Feijóo said on the social network X."The Attorney General must resign immediately. He cannot continue for one more minute," he added. The Supreme Court has confirmed the indictment of the Attorney General for the crime of revealing secrets linked to businessman Alberto González Amador, partner of the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. This step marks the definitive closure of the investigation and the conviction, by the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute him. It would be the first time a state attorney general is tried, unless he resigns first. The attorney general is not considering resigning, according to prosecutorial sources cited by Europa Press.

Sánchez: “We support the actions of the Attorney General, we believe in his innocence and he has the backing and guarantee of the Government of Spain”

“We support the actions of the Attorney General, we believe in his innocence and he has the backing and guarantee of the Government of Spain,” said the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, from Palma de Mallorca, after his audience with King Felipe VI, following the decision of the Supreme Court to prosecute him for an alleged leak.

Sánchez also ruled out, in response to questions from the media, that he will change any of his ministers after his return from vacation."There will be no government crisis," he assured, after ironically pointing out that journalists probably won't believe him. Claves del procesamiento del fiscal general: cuáles son ahora los siguientes pasos

The Attorney General of the State, Álvaro García Ortiz, is one step away from being brought to trial for the crime of revealing secrets. The Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Court has rejected the appeal filed by the head of the Prosecutor's Office against the decision of the judge who investigated this case, Ángel Hurtado, to propose taking him to trial for allegedly providing the media with an email linked to the businessman Alberto González Amador, partner of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso (PP), who is being prosecuted for tax fraud.

What are the next steps? Because this resolution cannot be appealed, García Ortiz is destined to go to trial. The only way to avoid facing trial is for no charges to be brought against him. However, this scenario is practically ruled out, since the prosecution has already requested a sentence (which will have to be raised to a final verdict after the hearing) against the Attorney General: the Professional and Independent Association of Prosecutors (APIF) has proposed a six-year prison sentence; while businessman Alberto González Amador, as well as Manos Limpias, Foro Libertad, and Alternativa (which also acts as legal counsel for Vox and Hazte Oír) have each requested four years in prison. The State Attorney General does not consider resigning after the Supreme Court endorsed his prosecution

The State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, is not considering resigning, after the Supreme Court endorsed his prosecution for an alleged revelation of secrets against Alberto González Amador, the boyfriend of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, according to prosecutorial sources consulted by Europa Press. The head of the Public Prosecutor's Office thus remains firm in the decision he made on October 16, when the Supreme Court indicted him for the alleged leaks surrounding the investigation against González Amador for tax crimes. On June 9, when the investigating judge in the case, Judge Ángel Hurtado, indicted him, the Prosecutor's Office reported that García Ortiz reiterated"his innocence" and reaffirmed "his commitment to continue defending the actions and integrity of the institution that he represents at the head of it." Andrés Palomo was the judge of the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Court chosen as rapporteur to draft the resolution that was to respond to the appeals filed against the prosecution of Álvaro García Ortiz, the State Attorney General, for the alleged leak of an email from the defense of Alberto González Amador, boyfriend of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid. But Palomo's conclusions, which proposed closing the case and annulling the proposal by investigating judge Ángel Hurtado to seat the highest representative of the public prosecutor's office in the dock due to the lack of evidence against him, meant that he had to step aside as rapporteur due to the refusal of his two colleagues on the court (Julián Sánchez Melgar and Eduardo de Porres) to accept his thesis. These differences have resulted in a lengthy dissenting opinion by Palomo against the ruling confirming García Ortiz's prosecution:"With the accumulated body of evidence, it is not possible to attribute the leak of the email to the person under investigation in a minimally justified manner," he criticizes.El voto particular contra el procesamiento del fiscal general: “No resulta posible atribuirle de una manera mínimamente justificada la filtración”

Álvaro García Ortiz, un fiscal general del Estado sin un minuto de tregua

“Complicity and collaboration with ETA.” PP deputy Luis Santamaría did not hold back in his accusations against Álvaro García Ortiz, who on that hot morning of July 28, 2022, had gone to Congress to pass the mandatory exam before taking office as Attorney General. Conservative media were publishing that the then number two in the Prosecutor's Office had ordered that the murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco be declared statute-barred. The prosecutor in charge of the case at the National Court, Jesús Alonso, of the conservative Association of Prosecutors (AF), had already published a note denying having received “any type of guidelines.” But the major headlines of the Madrid right continued to hammer away. And Congressman Santamaría was there to dish out some heat: the new State Prosecutor was collaborating with ETA. Published at: 14:55 CEST 29/07/2025

The PP demands the immediate resignation of the prosecutor:"He cannot continue for one more minute"

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has reacted to the Supreme Court's confirmation of the prosecution of the Attorney General of the State, Álvaro García Ortiz, for the crime of revealing secrets.

In a message on his X account, Feijóo stated: "The Attorney General must resign immediately. He cannot continue for one more minute." And he added: "Those who sit in the dock cannot prosecute crimes."

For his part, the Secretary General of the PP, Miguel Tellado, expressed in a message on his X account , that"before the day is out, Álvaro García Ortiz has to be out of the Prosecutor's Office" and that the Attorney General "has no escape, he can only submit to justice. Of course, from his home."

The parliamentary spokesperson for the Popular Party, Ester Muñoz, appeared in the lower house to describe as"a real shame" that "Spain has to suffer that the one who was supposed to prosecute crimes is going to sit in the dock," referring to the last lost appeal of Álvaro García Ortiz. Muñoz has emphasized that “there is no other option” than his resignation, that “there are no more doors to open” with resources to avoid his prosecution by García Ortiz and has concluded that the final prosecution of the Attorney General of the State “does not happen in any country in the environment” of Spain.

The Chief of Staff of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, has posted a message on his X account, where he has become very active since the judicial case against the president's partner, Alberto González Amador, was opened. For the past year, Rodríguez has been promoting the use of the expression"pa'lante" (going forward), in reference to all the legal cases surrounding or affecting Pedro Sánchez's government. El Supremo confirma el procesamiento del fiscal general y le aboca a sentarse en el banquillo

The Supreme Court has confirmed the prosecution of the Attorney General for the crime of disclosure of secrets linked to businessman Alberto González Amador, Isabel Díaz Ayuso's partner. The Appeals Chamber has rejected the appeal filed by Álvaro García Ortiz against Judge Ángel Hurtado's decision to issue an abbreviated procedure order, which means the definitive closure of the investigation and the ratification, by the Supreme Court's Criminal Chamber, that there is sufficient evidence to try the head of the public prosecutor's office.
