Spain, France, the United Kingdom, the EU, and the United Arab Emirates condemn the attack, express solidarity with the victims, and call for a ceasefire in the region.

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the shooting attack in East Jerusalem on Monday, which left at least five people dead—one of them a Spanish national—and a dozen injured. The government expressed its solidarity with the victims and offered its sincere condolences to the family of the murdered Spanish citizen. It also reiterated its commitment to peace in the Middle East and its firm condemnation of terrorism.

French President Emmanuel Macron also strongly condemned the attack, which follows a series of recent incidents in the region and has sparked international concern over the growing tension and instability in the territory. Macron expressed solidarity with the victims and the Israeli people on his social media account, writing,"France strongly condemns the terrorist attack that just occurred in East Jerusalem." He stressed the seriousness of the incident and the need for a firm response to the violence.

Macron called for a halt to the escalation of violence, insisting that the spiral of violence must end. He also reiterated that only a political solution can restore peace and stability to all peoples in the region, in line with France's traditional position of supporting diplomatic negotiations to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The UK ambassador to Israel, Simon Walters, also condemned the attack this morning at the Ramot crossing. In a message posted on X, he called the attack abhorrent and expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured, stressing that the cycle of violence must end.

These reactions were echoed by that of the European Union. EU spokesperson Anouar El Anouni noted that the attack underscores the urgency of reaching a ceasefire at a time when Israel continues its offensive in Gaza. “We condemn this attack, as we condemn all loss of life,” he said. “We call for de-escalation, and this shows how necessary and critical a ceasefire is.” The EU spokesperson added that civilians on both sides, both Palestinians and Israelis, have suffered too much for too long. This must end now, and it is time to break this cycle of violence.

For its part, the United Arab Emirates issued a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi, condemning in the strongest terms the attack carried out by two Palestinian terrorists from the West Bank. The statement reaffirms its continued rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism that undermine security and stability and sends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the State of Israel and its people.

Jerusalem and Abu Dhabi normalized relations in 2020 through the US-brokered Abraham Accords, though Abu Dhabi recently warned that those ties could be threatened if Israel considers annexing the West Bank in response to moves by Western countries to recognize a Palestinian state.
