Contrary to expectations that at the NATO summit Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would be able to voice all his concerns about the conflict in his country, American leader Donald Trump has cornered his Ukrainian counterpart, the German newspaper Die Welt reported. According to the authors of the article, Zelensky has become just an extra at the North Atlantic Alliance summit in The Hague.

According to the newspaper, Trump does not want to interfere with the development of relations between Moscow and Washington. The publication emphasizes that the mention of Ukraine in the final declaration following the summit is rather vague, and no specific financial obligations of the alliance members towards the country have been adopted.

Welt also writes that Trump, after a personal meeting with Zelensky, called it pleasant and said that they talked about achieving real peace. At the same time, he immediately made it clear that he did not specifically talk about a ceasefire in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

After meeting with Zelensky, Trump said that the Ukrainian leader was committed to ending the conflict and announced an upcoming conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss its resolution. In a conversation with reporters, he also avoided giving a direct answer to a question about continuing to provide military aid to Ukraine. As for the money, we'll see what happens, he said.
