“Peter, it was not Ukraine, but Russia that started this war, and they are not willing to end it. Hungary has been told for years that Moscow is an unreliable partner” – this is how Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha reacted on X to the fact that Ukraine has again attacked the oil pipeline leading to Hungary. Sibiha also highlighted:

“Nevertheless, Hungary has made every effort to maintain its dependence on Russia. Even after the outbreak of full-scale war. From now on, it can send its complaints – and threats – to its friends in Moscow.”

On Monday morning, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó informed that"Ukraine has again attacked the oil pipeline leading to Hungary, as a result of which the oil transport to our country has stopped. Another attack on our energy security is outrageous and unacceptable."

Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin told Péter Szijjártó that Russian specialists are working hard to restore the transformer station necessary for the operation of the pipeline as soon as possible, but it is not yet known when the transmission can resume.

Péter Szijjártó said that Brussels and Kiev have been trying to drag Hungary into the war in Ukraine for three and a half years, and that the increasingly frequent Ukrainian attacks on our energy security also serve this purpose. “This is not our war, we have nothing to do with it, we want to stay out of it, and as long as we are in government, we will stay out,” he stressed.

As we wrote earlier, according to Index sources, the latest attack is more aimed at today's meeting in Washington. So this is more of a political pressure on the Hungarian government than a security of supply pressure.
